The Sarangani Energy Watershed Protection Project spans over 7,500 hectares, larger than the City of Manila, giving forest cover to the Siguil and Kamanga River Watersheds. It is one of the largest watershed protection projects in the country, and it provides livelihood to more than 450 B’laan and T’boli indigenous families who plant and nurture the seedlings, supported with training, tools, and a stipend.

OUR COMMITMENT
Protecting the environment is central to how we run our plants. Our environmental program covers the forests that feed our rivers, the coasts beside our facilities, and the air the surrounding communities breathe.

Coastal and marine protection
We have planted mangroves in Iligan, Sarangani, and Zamboanga City to protect our coastlines. The 43.85-hectare Kamanga Marine Eco-Tourism Park and Sanctuary near our Sarangani plant was cited among the country’s 12 Outstanding Marine Protected Areas in the Para el Mar Awards.

Our power facilities have consistently complied with all applicable environmental laws, and our emission levels have always stayed well within the limits set by the national government.

We believe education changes lives, so it has been a priority since our power business began.
Over the years we have supported 4,000 scholars from elementary through college across Iligan, General Santos, Sarangani, and Zamboanga City, and built 40 fully-furnished classroom and library buildings for public schools, complete with desks, books, lab equipment, and facilities.

The Alsons Power Hidilyn Diaz Scholarship for aspiring weightlifters
In partnership with Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz, we support 15 young weightlifters in her hometown of Zamboanga City with school needs and a monthly stipend. Several have already won medals abroad, including 7 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze at the 2022 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships.
Parent Mentoring
The Parent Leaders Training and Parent Mentoring Sessions seek to bolster parental involvement and commitment in the learning of their children. This was implemented in 48 schools in the cities of General Santos, Iligan, Zamboanga & Davao, and the province of Sarangani.
Building Early Childhood Care and Development Facilities
We’re dedicated to developing, building, and rehabilitating Early Childhood Care and Development centers in remote Mindanao communities, ensuring young children have access to quality education and nurturing environments.
HEALTH
Helping keep our communities healthy.
We help fund health services in the communities that host our plants. Much of this is channelled through a national program called DOE 1-94, under which power generators set aside a small amount per unit of electricity sold to support host-community health, electrification, and environmental projects.
We provide essential healthcare services to communities in different municipalities and communities around Mindanao.
We funded a fully-equipped ambulance for the community hospital in Glan, Sarangani, through the Provincial Government.
During COVID-19, distributed food, water, patient beds, and PPE to frontliners and residents in Zamboanga, Iligan, General Santos, and Sarangani.
CLAFI
Our partner in caring: the Alcantara Foundation
Most of our sustainability work is carried out together with CLAFI, the Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation. Named in honor of our founders, CLAFI is a private, non-profit social development foundation and the social arm of the Alcantara Group.
It has been working since 1987 to empower people toward a peaceful and progressive Mindanao, focusing on education, community development, environmental protection, and child protection. CLAFI is how we make sure our care reaches the ground, year after year.
