Alsons Power, alongside the Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation, Inc. (CLAFI), has launched a mangrove reforestation initiative along the Sarangani coastline, targeting degraded shoreline areas near coastal barangays.
The initiative pairs employee volunteer planting days with a longer-term maintenance program run with local fisherfolk associations, who are compensated to monitor seedling survival and replant where needed.
"A mangrove planting photo op is easy. Getting the seedlings to actually survive the first two years is the hard part, and that's why the fisherfolk partnership matters more than the planting day itself," said a CLAFI program coordinator.
