In the weeks following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao, Alsons Power mobilized relief operations across Sarangani Province and General Santos City, reaching close to 16,000 individuals with food packs, clean water, hygiene kits, and temporary shelter materials.
Employee volunteers from Sarangani Energy Corporation and Southern Philippines Power Corporation worked alongside local government units and barangay disaster response teams to identify the hardest-hit communities, prioritizing families displaced from damaged homes near the coastline and upland barangays cut off by landslides.
"Our people live in these communities too. Getting the plants back online mattered, but making sure our neighbors had food and clean water in the first 72 hours mattered just as much," said the company's Sarangani area operations lead.
Alsons Power has committed to a longer-term recovery program that will support the rebuilding of a primary school and a rural health unit in Maasim, in partnership with the local government and disaster relief agencies.
