Southern Philippines Power Corporation (SPPC), a longtime diesel-fired plant in Alabel, Sarangani, is being converted into a large-scale solar facility, marking one of Alsons Power's most visible steps yet in its shift toward renewable generation.
The converted site will use SPPC's existing grid connection and land footprint, allowing the new solar facility to come online faster than a greenfield project would, while retiring an aging diesel asset from the company's thermal fleet.
Once complete, the facility will add utility-scale solar capacity to the Sarangani grid, complementing Siguil Hydro Power Corporation as part of Alsons Power's growing renewables portfolio in the province.
"We're not just adding renewables, we're actively retiring the older, dirtier generation as we go. This conversion is a good example of what that looks like in practice," said the company's renewables development lead.
