Jeanette Garcia joined Alsons Power's finance team as a junior accountant and, over eight years, worked her way into a senior role overseeing reporting for two of the company's generating subsidiaries.

"Finance in a power company is different from what I studied in school. You're not just closing books — you're the one translating megawatt-hours and fuel costs into numbers the board can actually act on," Jeanette explains.

She credits the company's willingness to let her take on stretch assignments early — auditing plant-level budgets long before she was formally in a senior position — as what let her redefine what career growth could look like for her.

Jeanette now mentors newer members of the finance team, encouraging them to ask for exposure to operations the same way she did, rather than waiting for it to be offered.
